4:33p	Possibly the most amazing thing is how colossally wealthy a nation has to be, to keep absent-mindedly throwing its shard-earned money at the tenured denizens of the "soft" liberal arts and science disciplines, the ones who think it's a sign of independence and true love of mankind to wear a Che Guevara T-shirt. Ни раз тут отмечал что бывшие куклуксклановцы, функционеры Луиса Фаррахана, исламисты и нео-нацисты последние годы уже по сути всегда выступают на стороне демпартии, если не непосредственно в её рядах. Democrats and the Poor. Вemocrats care a lot about keeping poor people poor so they will vote for Democrats. That's why they believe in teacher's unions and poor schools. (Comment on this)
6:12p	Schools First vs. Kids First “When school children start paying union dues, that's when I'll start representing the interests of school children.” — Al Shanker, former American Federation of Teachers President Ситуация с американской школьной системой в целом во многом может быть понята заметно более детально на примерах того, как она развивается в отдельных штатах. Вот например ниже данные статистики по штату Миннесота: The Mayo Clinic, which is Minnesota’s largest private employer, has 3 lobbyists at the Capitol. The Minnesota Realtors, of whom there are 24,000, are represented by 3 lobbyists. The 3M has 5 lobbyists, The Target has 9, The Chamber of Commerce that represents all businesses in Minnesota has a grand total of 11. The teachers’ union has 58 . No other political group even comes close to wielding the kind of money and power that the teacher’s union does. Despite these facts we have seen no significant gains in student performance. В этом же городе признанно что из худшего уровня итогов обучения школьников для всей страны если сравнивать. In the 2005 National Assessment of Educational Progress tests administered to eighth-graders, only 12 percent of District students scored grade-level proficient in reading and only 7 percent scored grade-level proficient in math. No state did that poorly. The District spent the most money and got the worst results. Профсоюз учителей - NEA - озбоченако куда как более политически для него важнфыми проблемами чем уровень образования котлорый получают в школах дети американцев. Самые приоритетные - кроме забот о раздувании собственного бюджета - задачи этого профсоюза заключаются в отстаивании политической линии демпартии: The NEA currently supports a nuclear freeze, abortion rights, the United Nations, granting of legal status to illegal immigrants, strict gun control laws, opposing English as an official language, and even strays into such issues as Social Security reform. Вывод: If parents and lawmakers want to focus on improving educational outcomes, they have to abandon the notion that the teachers’ union agenda is the best or only way to do so.
